If you’ve never visited a chiropractor before, it’s natural to feel a little unsure about what to expect. The good news is that your first appointment is straightforward, informative and for most people the first step toward feeling significantly better.
The Consultation
Your first visit begins with a thorough consultation. Your chiropractor will ask about your symptoms, how long you’ve had them, what makes them better or worse, and how they’re affecting your daily life. We’ll also take a full medical history to make sure chiropractic care is appropriate for you.
The Examination
Following the consultation, we carry out a physical examination. This may include assessing your posture, range of movement, and the way you walk. We’ll examine the specific area causing you problems and, where relevant, carry out neurological or orthopaedic tests to help build a complete picture of what’s going on.
The Diagnosis and Treatment Plan
Once we’ve examined you, we’ll explain what we’ve found in clear, straightforward language with no jargon. We’ll discuss your treatment options and give you a realistic expectation of how many sessions you’re likely to need. We believe in transparency, which means we’ll never recommend more treatment than is necessary.
Treatment
In many cases, we’ll begin treatment at your very first appointment. Chiropractic techniques vary and your chiropractor will explain exactly what they’re doing and why, always working within your comfort level.
After Your Appointment
It’s common to feel some mild muscle soreness after your first session, particularly if your body hasn’t been moved in certain ways for a while. This is perfectly normal and usually settles within a day or two. Many patients also notice an immediate improvement in their symptoms, even after a single visit.
